At the end of this incredible first year of leading Marshall Street, I am awed and inspired by the phenomenal education leaders I’ve worked with every day. Their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have transformed learning environments, enriched student experiences, and elevated outcomes for students all across the nation. This report details the many notable achievements of our key programs, including the Marshall Teacher Residency and Marshall Leadership Institute, as well as the newly founded Marshall CoLab. These programs have reached thousands of students across the country, and most importantly, their successes are a result of working in partnership with schools to support a vision of transformation that comes from within their communities.

Marshall prepares teachers who lead powerful and equitable learning environments, school leaders who are transformers and community builders, and communities of schools that are committed to solving complex challenges together. Our programs are unique. They focus on being proactive, aiming to improve and develop both the people within schools and the systems that support them, so that we can best serve students.
Forged new pathways into teaching, expanding our production of high-quality teachers who represent the communities they serve
Deepened partnerships to develop schools’ internal capacity to operate and grow robust, enduring leadership pipeline
Led a Networked Improvement Community to achieve significant gains for students with disabilities and make best practice standard practice nationwide
Transformative schools share three characteristics: they center students in decisions, they have adults with the right mindsets and preparation, and they have systems that replicate success and support adults to do their best work. Our programs help schools and educators develop these traits. As I look ahead, I am eager to coach and collaborate with Marshall’s talented team to optimize each program’s impact.
There are also promising opportunities for Marshall as a whole. I believe deeply in the role of charter school networks to be laboratories of innovation and work collaboratively with the broader public school sector. Marshall Street, an arm of Summit Public Schools, embraces this role and will work with Summit to explore three areas with exciting potential: codifying mentoring for whole-child support, especially in secondary schools where it’s often lost; spearheading the evolution of learning environments to discover “what’s possible” for schools if old restrictions — such as the Carnegie Unit/seat time requirements — are discarded; and helping schools harness the power of data so educators can focus on what’s best for their students.
With so much possibility, we approach the future with immense hope. I feel deep gratitude toward the philanthropic community, our expanding group of school partners, and the Marshall team, who together have built a lasting foundation for continued growth and success.
I invite you to explore the impact of each of our programs in this report, and I look forward to working together to create a brighter future for all students.
