The Marshall Teacher Residency began in 2014 to develop powerful teachers across the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, we serve regions across California, including the Central Valley and Los Angeles. We partner with public schools that align with our values and goals to develop student-centered, anti-racist classrooms.
Our program currently places Residents in values-aligned, middle and high schools in the following communities. We are growing our network of partner schools, and there may be opportunities to be placed in your local community if you do not see it on the map.
During the application process, we collect your preferences on both credential area and school site placement. School site placements are finalized after you enroll in the program and are dependent on availability.

I’ve loved our Resident participation in staff conversations around equity and diversity. I think our Residents continue to push their teaching practice and have helped our [Cooperating Teachers] grow as teachers and leaders.
Schools choose to partner with us because they care deeply about diversifying their teaching staff and supporting the training and development of new teachers. Our school partners are invested in our Residents and understand the value that they bring to their classrooms and school community. School partners agree to host residents in their classrooms for the full residency year, so that Residents can learn from experienced teachers and have hands-on teaching practice. At the end of the residency year, school partners prioritize hiring our Residents for their teaching roles.

We provide an affordable and supportive path to a rewarding and successful teaching career.
