Dr. James O'Brien

Dr. James O?Brien is the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Meteorology & Oceanography and Director of Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The Center is a multidisciplinary research unit that commands an annual budget approaching $3 million and employs 15 full-time research scientists. Dr. O?Brien may be best known for his basic research into El Niņo, the most well known climatological term today. His honors include membership in Norway's Academy of Science and Letters and the Russian Academy of Science. In 1991, he was named Secretary of the Navy Professor of Meteorology and Oceanography and in 1999 he was appointed State of Florida Climatologist.
