Responding to Oreskes and Conway's Merchants of Doubt

In 2010, Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway published Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming.   The book disparages the Marshall Institute and its founders, Dr. Frederick Seitz, Dr. Robert Jastrow, and Dr. William Nierenberg.

George Mason University’s Center for Climate Change Communication honored Dr. Oreskes with its "Communicator of the Year" Award (see http://www.climatechangecommunication.org/) in large part for her work on Merchants of Doubt. Institute President Jeff Kueter responded to this award in Communicator of the Year? Honoring Oreskes Reveals Much About the State of the Climate Change Debate

A more detailed examination of Merchants of Doubt is available at http://www.marshall.org/pdf/materials/894.pdf.

Institute Director Mark Mills wrote on the topic for Forbes at http://www.forbes.com/2010/11/24/merchants-of-doubt-intelligent-investing-science-mark-mills.html.
